Pastor's Corner
"Helping Others"
It sounds like a story someone made up, but the story is true. In 1890 in the Australian Supreme Court a witness testified that he saw a lady fall in the street. But he testified that he did not help her because they had not yet been properly introduced! Surely Victorian manners could not have been that strict!
You and I have been "properly introduced", by way of newspapers, television, radio, etc. to the suffering of the world. Every day we hear more about the devastation and the updated death count in Haiti. We simply cannot deny knowledge of their need, and we cannot refuse to help!
Thank you for responding, on several levels, to a people in desperate need. Some have made personal and individual contributions through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. Others have responded to the "Buckets of Hope" mission effort. At this point, we should have somewhere between 17 to 20 buckets filled with food for Haiti. What a wonderful response!
Here is yet another opportunity. On Sat. May 22, a one day "Disaster Relief" Training session will be offered at Eagle Eyrie. Please let me know if you have any interest in participating. There is a sign-up sheet on the table outside the church office.
Blessings,
Dave
